Check the frame before choosing fabric
Worn upholstery does not necessarily mean the piece needs replacing. The first step is to assess the frame, joints, suspension and fillings. Sagging seats, noises or movement in the frame help identify what needs inspection. Photographs allow an initial assessment; hidden damage may require inspection of the piece itself.
What affects the cost of reupholstery
The quote depends on the sofa’s size and shape, the amount of fabric or leather, the condition of the fillings and any repairs. A patterned fabric may require additional material to align the design. Compare the total restoration cost with a new piece of equivalent construction, taking comfort, dimensions and the piece’s value to you into account.
Agree the scope before work starts
The quotation should distinguish new upholstery, replacement fillings and structural repairs. The sample, material quantity and schedule are agreed before work begins. Confirm transport and installation arrangements too. This makes clear which elements will be retained and which will be replaced.

Common questions
Is reupholstery always cheaper than buying new?
Not necessarily. It depends on repairs, the chosen upholstery and the construction of the piece. The assessment and quotation help you decide whether restoration is worthwhile.
Can you replace the fillings as well as the fabric?
Yes. Assessment includes fillings, springs, frame and seams. The proposed work and replacement materials are specified in the quotation.
